Cute, Gothic and Deadly!

I've been doing very little reading this year, only really finished 2 books, what i have been reading mostly seems to be comics. I might write on that later on. But i did recently have a spur of Cute, Gothic and Deadly tales haunt my nights.

The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy
And Other Stories

by Tim Burton

It started Saturday night when i couldn't resist this little book in that most cursed of places. The book is utterly adorable (except for the main story which is horrible and should be avoided for those weak of stomach, i don't think i'm ever eating oysters again). My favourites are definitely "Roy, the Toxic Boy" and "Stick Boy and Match Girl in Love", but why take my word for it, check it out for yourself here. And don't forget to go to this page here for more adventures on your favourite hero, Stain Boy (look at the bottom of the page).

The Monsters in my tummy
by Roman Dirge

And because it seems like Cute, Gothic and Deadly must stick to each other like glue, i immediately found this little comic in my hands, made by the creator of that cute little dead girl named Lenore. Ever thought about what happens inside you when someone breaks your heart? Well this little book explains it. I specially liked the little end note.

Dreary And Naughty: Friday the 13th of February
by John LaFleur and Shawn Dubin

And finally this one, which is not so Deadly and definitely the worst or the pack, but appropriate considering the calendar. Although the art is lovely, the story could take some improvement.

I really enjoyed my brief trip down the Cute Funny Macabre road, my favourite part was in fact the cute little poetry, i highly recommend it!
Hungry for more? Check out this little video, while i go listen to the The Nightmare Before Christmas OST.

Edit: I forgot to thank B for the inspiration to do this post, and of course loaning me the books.
