This is my favourite R.E.M. song, i'm totally nuts about it, it says a lot about me, in quite an unexpected way. Also the video is pretty good, the story goes that during the first day of shooting the idea just wasn't "working", so the director scrapped the whole plan, told Michael to improvise and instructed the cameraman to just keep up with him, while the remaining members of the band merely stand in the background most of the time, that's why you get the natural flow of image as Michael roams the room, and trust me the man on stage is equally unstoppable.
If you were wondering about the other images in the video, they are from paintings, mythology and Russian Propaganda Posters, they were chosen for it's beauty, but they also symbolize how religion can be in fact different things.
As for the song, on the "best of" album, Michael claims to have written it in one afternoon, he also says that he doesn't know where the inspiration for it came from and that he doesn't think that he'll ever write something like it again. According to him lightning doesn't strike twice.
