I've lost count of how many posts i've done today but i had to post this.
This is a project that i have been following for some time with great interest. Not only does the premise sound good but the artwork is amazing, and i'm not saying it because it's drawn by a friend mind you.
Here's the premise by the words of the writer C.B. Cebulski:
In a nutshell, it's about a teenage girl named Saya who upsets the Gods of the Four Seasons, who then decide that her valley will no longer enjoy the change of seasons as punishment for her actions. Saya must then travel to the Lands of the Four Seasons and apologize to the Gods of Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring in order for her home and people to survive. It's a 12-issue series that begins next year in late Spring/early Summer. João Lemos is the artist and has a style unlike any you've ever seen. He's going to be a star and I predict his art will be trend-setting in this industry, making a stylistic impact along the lines of what Mike Mignola and Bruce Timm have done.Shiki is expected to start in early 2007.
This i just found out about today, but i tell you i jumped out of my chair thinking "Oh my god this is beautiful!".
The artwork is truly amazing, to see pages see the article on Newsarama. And here's the premise:
In the spring of 2003, a pride of lions escaped from the Baghdad Zoo during an American bombing raid. Lost and confused, hungry but finally free, the four lions roamed the decimated streets of Baghdad in a desperate struggle for their lives. In documenting the plight of the lions, PRIDE OF BAGHDAD raises questions about the true meaning of liberation — can it be given, or is it earned only through self-determination and sacrifice? And in the end, is it truly better to die free than to live life in captivity?
Based on a true story, Vaughan and Henrichon have created a unique and heartbreaking window into the nature of life during wartime, illuminating this struggle as only the graphic novel can.
